Torrey Summer, approximately 24″ by 48″, oil on cradled panel.
This is a partially abstracted oil painting of the alfalfa field between Torrey, Teasdale and Grover in Wayne County Utah, during the summer. In the background are ridges leading up to Boulder Mountain on the Aquarius Plateau. The valley depicted sits at 7,000 feet surrounded on three sides by mesas and ridges rising to 11,000 feet. To the east the valley follows the Fremont River to drop down into Capitol Reef National Park and the beautiful desert landscapes of the Colorado Plateau which extends about 150 miles east to the Manti LaSal Mountains east of Moab. In the late afternoon on clear days in late fall and winter it is often possible to see the Manti LaSal mountains from high points in Wayne County.
