Bicknell Bottoms, Oil on stretched canvas, 15″ by 30″.
This is a common western landscape scene.  It depicts an alfalfa field in Wayne County a little west of Torrey, in southern Utah,  during the spring, as the field is just starting to grow again. April, May and June are typically the driest time of the year in the region around Capitol Reef and the major crop in the area is alfalfa used to feed the cattle in the area. I like the shocking brightness of the green cultivated area against the reds of the surrounding rocks and soil of the uncultivated environment.
